This is a development of the highly successful partnership between Brown and Jones (the Outfitters?) as seen at Scarborough Festival last year. Parliamentary Jazz Awards winners of “Best Ensemble” 2007, when their first CD was also nominated .
That was three years ago and the “difficult second album” is just ready and ripe for some publicity via a Nationwide tour. Mark Hodgson has played with Guy Barker and been MD for Gwyneth Herbert. Alyn is the dynamic Scottish drummer we have come to love in Wakefield.
The project is very much a culmination of many years spent touring with each others’ bands and our friendship on and off stage. It’s a vehicle for both our writing and playing and an attempt to expand into, for us, some new areas. Although rooted in straight-ahead jazz, the music is quite eclectic and touches at times on drum and bass, Latin and funk.
Damon Brown - trumpet, cornet, flugel Ed Jones - saxes Mark Hodgson - bass Alyn Cosker - drums (Joe Leach - electronics)
